Cantin is Malmö's new urban street food destination. With several street food concepts and bars, Cantin has created a unique meeting place where guests can explore new flavors, socialize with friends, and enjoy themselves in an urban and vibrant environment.
Cantin was born from the idea of creating a place where food, music, culture, and people meet by the water. Behind the venture is Rodrigo Lopez from Matcoma, who for many years has been involved in shaping Malmö's food and events scene through initiatives such as Malmöfestivalen, Malmö Food Truck Festival, and European Street Food Awards.
The challenge
Finding a platform for multiple concepts and actors
As a brand new venture, Cantin needed to find a point-of-sale system that would work for several different operators on-site. With various points of sale and a strong focus on the guest experience, it was important to find a solution that was:
Easy to get started with
Easy to use
Flexible for different needs
”I've been looking quite a bit and for a long time for good payment solutions for Cantin. It's quite large and it's something new. It also has a lot of different elements and stakeholders.”
– Rodrigo Lopez, Founder of Cantin
After comparing different options and spending a lot of time researching, one thing stood out:
”I got stuck on WEIQ precisely because it seems to be a rather simple solution. Because it's the simplicity I'm after. Simplicity, speed, and functionality.”
For Cantin, the choice wasn't about finding the most features, but about finding a solution that:
- Worked right from the start
- Be easy to understand
- Could be used by all actors from day one.
Cantin is built to handle many visitors every day between 11 AM and 10 PM. Some are permanent kitchens during the season, while others are reserved for a pop-up concept. From the start, WEIQ handled the setup, payment, and operations for:
- 10 unique food trucks, food and drink creators
- 2 different common bars for the area, with multiple sales points
- 3 pop-ups where the food trucks rotate seasonally
The Solution: A platform built for simplicity
Cantin chose WEIQ with a focus on three things: simplicity, speed, and user-friendliness. In a business where many people, concepts, and experiences meet every day, technology needs to work in the background. The goal was to create a smooth workflow for the staff while giving guests the simplest experience possible.
From the outset, the system received positive reactions from the various stakeholders in the field.
”Really smooth. I was in a small intro earlier, and I think it's super smooth.”
”It's like there are no places where you wonder, ’What should I do now?’
”Everything is super smooth. Really. Extremely user-friendly.”
Lisa, Manager at Cantin
One of the things that was most appreciated was how easy the system was to learn – even for people without a technical background.
– ”I'm not a technical person. So I appreciate it. Really.”
It quickly became clear to the staff that the system was built to function in an operation where the pace can be high and where it must be quick to receive orders and payments.
Cantin is built to be adaptable. Some containers are fixed kitchens, while others are reserved for pop-up concepts – both commercial and non-commercial. Here, chefs, creators, DJs, artists, and various associations can set up for shorter periods.
This means the area will never feel “finished.” The offerings should be able to shift with seasons, collaborations, and ideas – but the feeling should remain the same: open, friendly, and a little unexpected.
The result: A smooth start
The result was stable operations from day one—100 % of all orders were processed without interruption, while the operators gained full control over sales and statistics in real time.
Despite the area lacking WiFi access, WEIQ was able to implement the solution using data traffic, connected terminals, and SIM cards. This allowed businesses to get started immediately without depending on local network infrastructure. The solution could be smoothly adapted to the businesses' wishes to manage their order and ticket systems.
Initial impressions from both staff and stakeholders have been consistently positive. The majority highlight how easy the system is to use in everyday life and how quickly it can be learned.
”Very smooth, very easy.”
”It's like there are no places where you wonder, ’What should I do now?’
“It's more modern than what we had before, so it's a positive experience for us.”
After the opening day, several businesses chose to join WEIQ's QR ordering. This means guests can sit down with their friends, order directly from their mobile, and receive a notification when their food is ready for pickup.
Instead of spending the evening in line, visitors can explore several different street food concepts, discover new flavors, and focus on the experience. The solution contributes to the vision of creating a vibrant meeting place where people can socialize, eat well, and enjoy the atmosphere together. A modern living room in the heart of Malmö, where food, people, and the experience are at the center.
